I have created this personal website as an opportunity for student athletes including myself! I wanted to create a space for collegiate athletes to learn about NIL from a personable source, given that I have lived in the shoes of my audience. Despite my collegiate career coming to an end, I know I would have appreciated a fellow student-athlete to offer this information. I'm hopeful that's the reason why you're here!
Bluffton, SC – February 23, 2024- Name, image, and likeness (NIL) has been the backbone of NCAA’s news over the last three years. This is Skyler Sicoli’s world, and I am providing the latest NIL news and the effects that it has on the student-athletes involved. I will be discussing various examples of student-athletes such as Zach Edey, the 2023 National college player of the year, Bronny James, the son of Lebron James, and a few other very respectable collegiate athletes. With a priority to inform student athletes, I will be providing various content on NIL and collegiate athletics.
Collegiate athletes and their association to NIL has erupted social media and further publicized collegiate sports. The athletes listed above are miniscule in comparison to the attention that collegiate athletes bring to the NCAA. NIL now provides more opportunity from a business standpoint to student-athletes than ever before. My goal is to share this opportunity to help inspire student-athletes to choose for themselves if NIL is for them. In 2022, NIL endorsements amounted to approximately $917 million, and the total for 2023 remains undetermined, although an increase is anticipated.
Recently, publicized a narrative spotlighting Zach Edey, his achievements, and how he serves as an example for Canadian athletes aspiring to pursue their academic dreams in the United States. This can serve as inspiration for Canadians while highlighting the positive impact NIL has had on Zach and his basketball journey.
In the coming days, I will be unravelling the facts on what NIL is and how it started. Although many know of NIL, I am looking to provide specific information on its true meaning, and how it has sparked collegiate sports in the recent years.
